A Quick Tip on Starting a Business

Building a strong brand means having a product or service that impacts society and is a cohesive single unit. The targeted audience must be able to relate to the marketing and understand its meaning without getting caught up in the details. Create a brand or identity that is themed tightly and is appealing and you are well on your way.

The three aspects of a business that impact consumers and targeted audiences alike are your brand, the web, and print marketing. This is what draws people in and makes a business significant among its competitors. This also where the focus of a business should be once the infrastructure is in place and nailed down.

It must be distinguished how these products and services are relevant and what makes them different among their peers. To compete there must be a competitive edge. It’s a simple equation. There are many companies and small businesses out there that have several different marketing pieces, ads, and slogans and it becomes confusing. The message must be simple so there is an instant connection.

It’s not uncommon for small start-up businesses to try and do things on their own. They will design their own logo and marketing materials and some may even try to create a website. We’ve all seen some hideous outcomes from this. This only hurts a business that is trying to grow. Finding a designer to put together a professional brand costs money but you have to spend money to make money.

In order to succeed you have to get the word out. However you decide to go about this will impact your future. A business that is starting out not only needs to provide a product or service that is significant but it also needs to radiate professionalism and quality. Over half of businesses fail in their first year according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. It comes down to this: location, money, experience, inventory management, competition, and poor sales. Most of this can be controlled by proper branding and making correct decisions.

If you are planning to start a business, focus on two things – infrastructure (the inside) and marketing (the outside). These two elements will make or break you. If you run your operation correctly and you market yourself with appeal and professionalism you will increase your chances of succeeding.

Always look for ways to save money. For the inside, keep track of ALL your records, start small, and stay out of credit trouble. For the outside, create a captivating campaign, appeal to your audience, and consider creative help through an experienced freelance designer as opposed to an expensive design firm.

Cut Expenses and Increase Revenue

There’s a small business in a small town on the outskirts of the big city looking to increase revenue and grow their business. The first place they go is to one of the largest design firm in the area to expand on their current, but limited, advertising and marketing campaigns. This seems like a wise choice and it is, but can you spot their mistake?

Large design firms tend to be expensive and when you are a small business with a budget you need to cut expenses in anyway you can. Elaborating on marketing and advertising is an excellent way to build your client base and will in-turn increase sales and profits. First and foremost is having a solid website with brochures and printed marketing materials to follow. This may seem obvious, but watch what decisions you are making in the process.

Nine times out of ten a business will run to a large design firm to handle the creative aspect of their endeavors. What they don’t realize is that the right freelance designer can deliver the same quality at a fraction of the cost. Larger design firms build a reputation and spend a portion of their profits on advertising which makes them seem like the go-to place. However, they have much more overhead that is included in their price tag. The small business in the small town mentioned earlier is paying for an entire design teams salaries, the big design firms advertising, and of course there has to be a profit to be made.

Freelance graphic designers are often overlooked. Some are specialized in certain areas and some can bring a lot to the table. The key is to find a designer who is experienced in website design, print design, and brand identity. This takes care of every element in developing a new marketing and advertising campaign. It only takes a little bit of research and you can save a bundle of money. You are also getting a much more personable experience.

There is not a single business out there that isn’t trying to grow and the way to do so is to get the most for your money. Sometimes we overlook things due to the convenience of another. The fact is that there are better options out there that will produce the same, if not better, results. Every little bit helps and in today’s economy that is ever so true. Whether it is building a better website that’s optimized for better search results or creating new letterheads, brochures, and mailers everything must be better than your competition. That is the only way you will get the upper hand. Consumers look for something that will grab their eye and speaks quality. Marketing and advertising are the first impression that could either make or break business.
